It seems we don’t care about our future generations . Or about the accountability we will have to face with regards to our own lives . If we are worried about anything today, it’s status, power and money . We’re running after these things blindly . I ask some people . What is it you want to do in life? They don’t know . I ask, what have you done in all this time that has passed , They don’t know that either Or why did they do certain things, They can’t answer that either Or I ask them why they think they are here, in this world, They don’t know Or about their plans for their lives, They have no answer . You know, even if you ask a school-child or college-goer what they want to become when they are older, they will be able to give you an answer, like being a doctor or a pilot. The shy ones, they might laugh and tell you they want to be an artist. But they have some idea of what they want. There are some adults though, who even at 40 or 50 years old cannot answer these basic questions: what have you been doing, why have you been doing it, and what do you want to do going forward? And they have money . They have power But they’re in ruins . They are totally devastated, stuck in their lives And when I ask the simple question That do they believe in the one, omni-potent God? They say, ‘Of course, but…’ And I say if they do, then there is no room for ‘but’ And that He is all there is, the beginning, the end and the middle. It’s just a matter of going to Him . He is mercy . It doesn’t matter what you have done or not done . Just go to him , Call him . Tell him how much you have messed up, Tell him you’ve come because he is mercy, and grace, and endlessly generous. Tell him you’ve come because of his own promise that we can count on him, no matter how deep the hole we have dug for ourselves. Tell him you’ve done the worst But now you’re back for forgiveness. Tell him that you are now waiting for his mercy, and for another chance . Tell him you’re fed up with the tyrant that lives inside you, that you want to finally be free of this tyrant and its cruelty . Ask him for a chance to get closer, just a little bit closer to his Beloved, his Prophet, whether this be in thought or action or any other small trait we might be capable of adopting. Because take it from me as a doctor . I am just coming back from a round of the emergency ward . Illness is on the rise. Dengue is everywhere And have we thought about why? COVID is back, even if it’s not severe But it’s a warning . To submit ourselves . Those with dengue and COVID can listen to Surah Rahman for seven days, in the way prescribed But we should all listen to the Qaseeda Burda Sharif (a hymn honouring and paying tribute to the Prophet, Peace Be Upon Him), and ask the Prophet to intercede with God on our behalf. May the Lord protect and help us all.
